Well, yesterday was spent running around getting materials together to make going away gifts for a few of my husbands guys and of course, I love making the gifts for the wives! Sewing is a passion I have had for a long time and when I was living the life in LA, I used to love helping my friend Sarah (who was on Project Runway) work on costumes, usually mine lol, and all of her tips and tricks I could learn, I can now apply to my projects. Yesterday I learned the fine art of disassembling and reassembling 2 uniform blouses and making them flat enough to sew AND fit in a frame so all of the ribbons and special touches the hubby needs to add can be done easily.
I remember seeing somewhere that a part of a uniform was turned into a purse and I though that it would be so special to have a senior wife do that for me if my husband was retiring out or PCSing (moving for the nonmilitary folk ;) So being "crafty" I learned how to turn the remaining part of the uniform (mostly the sleeves and several pockets) into a tote bag. Now, this was fun, time consuming without a pattern, but I really feel that the wives will like these as they will always have a personal momenta of their husbands service, or of their husband while he's deployed. I will post pictures AFTER they are given as I don't remember if they read my blog or not and don't want to spoil the surprise ;) If you would like tips on how to do this or if you would like my help, please contact me...first and foremost, I am a military wife and proud to be of service to other wives!
I will do my best to catch up today, though I don't think I missed much yesterday. As usual, check out the Twitter Widget and catch today's daily deals...there are a ton that look really good that I caught while perusing my email earlier.
